The New York Mets are one of the best-known teams in Major League Baseball history, having been around since 1962. They have won the World Series twice and played at three separate stadiums, from their humble origins at the Polo Grounds for two seasons, to stints at both Shea Stadium (1964-2008) and Citi Field, which has been their home since 2008. But what else is behind this grand old team? What are the differences between them and their more-famous rivals, the New York Yankees?
The Mets got off to the worst start in MLB history when they went 40-120 in their inaugural year, and never finished better than second-to-last until the 1969 breakthrough season when the so-called ‘Miracle Mets’ beat the Baltimore Orioles in what is still known as being one of the biggest shocks in World Series history. If anything, the Mets are famous for being a World Series team, despite having only won it twice. Since 1969, they have appeared in four World Series finals, but only won one of them, in 1986.
Once the New York Mets established themselves as a force to be reckoned with, they entertained and succeeded in synchronisation. Their dramatic run in 1973’s World Series was only halted after a 7-game loss to Oakland Athletics. And after they won the World Series in 1986, triumphing over the Boston Red Sox, they lost a Subway Series to their cross-city rivals the New York Yankees, before making the World Series final last year in 2015. There, they were surprisingly and convincingly beaten by the Kansas City Royals.
Apart from the World Series runs, The Mets have won 6 East Division titles, including last season’s. They have also won five National League pennants, including in 2015 and 2000, when they received their second wild card berth in as many years.
In terms of player trades, probably the most outstanding date that will spring to the mind of any Mets fan would be in 1977, on a day heralded the ‘Midnight Massacre’, when star pitcher Tom Seaver was traded. But The Mets have traded in their fair share of star names, with Darryl Strawberry chief amongst them. Cy Young award winner Dwight Gooden also played for The Mets, with the legendary Keith Hernandez one of The Mets’ most famous acquisitions.
Having come so close in 2015, who’d bet against the New York Mets winning their third World Series in 2016?

New York Mets Online Betting Tips
Can the Mets go one better in 2016 and win the World Series title after losing to Kansas in such dramatic circumstances this year?
They’re certainly placed to do so, but we doubt their offence in playoff games.
They’ll still be a team to stop in the league, however, and were at +1200 on the Moneyline via Bovada at the start of the 2016-17 season.
We recommend that you back them to finish in a playoff spot.
