Bovada NFL Odds Week 5

Bovada NFL Odds Week 5
Wagering on the NFL tends to get easier as the season goes on. As the schedule flies, contenders and pretenders begin showing themselves. However, that hasn't been the case so far. Aside from the undefeated Chiefs and a few bottom feeders, most of the league is stuck in the middle. That makes betting on Week 5 difficult, but we have four picks that deserve your dollar!

NFL Games Week 5

Can you believe we’re about one-quarter of the way into the NFL season?

Thus far, it’s been crazy unpredictable and last week was no different with New England and Dallas both dropping home games. Week 5 might be more of the same with multiple “trap game” matchups dotting the schedule. However, that’s what we’re here for.

We did the dirty work and dug through all the Bovada odds — money lines, spreads, and over/unders — and selected our four best bets. Without further ado, here are our picks:

Bovada NFL Picks

San Francisco at Indianapolis Colts (-120)

Two of the biggest dumpster fires in the league meet in a game someone has to mercifully win — and that’ll be San Francisco for their first win of the season.

Quarterback Andrew Luck is inching closer to returning to the field, but it’s still Jacoby Brissett under center for the Colts on Sunday. Brissett’s only been on the team for a month and the rhythm is noticeably lacking for Indianapolis’ offense.

Both these teams rank almost even in all categories, but 49ers will gut out a victory in large part to a better run game. Expect a heavy dose from Carlos Hyde, who is sixth in the league in rushing and averages 4.9 yards a carry.

Pick: San Francisco (EVEN)

Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions (-3)

This one has game of the week written all over it. Carolina and Detroit are both playoff-caliber teams and the public is split on this matchup.

The Lions’ defense is quietly becoming one of the best in the NFL. After four games, they’re giving up the fourth-least points in the league at 17.5 — coincidentally tied with the Panthers.

Cam Newton finally came to life last week, shredding the Patriots for 360 total yards and four scores. Detroit’s secondary will pose a bigger threat, but don’t be surprised if Newton reverts to his running ways. He’ll have opportunities to expose the Lions with his legs, and if he does, expect a Panthers victory.

Pick: Panthers (+3)

Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers (-8.5)

Jacksonville is so close to making the next leap forward. Running back Leonard Fournette is living up to his fourth-overall draft pick status and more, while the defense is littered with ball hawks. But the Jaguars problem is still at the game’s most important position, quarterback.

Blake Bortles is completing an underwhelming 54.5 percent of his throws for an average of six yards. That offensive output will keep you in games against the likes of the Jets or Ravens like the past two weeks, but not so much against the high-powered Steelers.

You’re going to need to score to keep pace with the Steelers, especially when they’re playing at Heinz Field. Playing at home will give the Pittsburgh a much-needed jolt after a shaky few weeks, resulting in a blowout win and cover for the Steelers.

Pick: Steelers (-8.5)

Over/under 46.5 points: Seattle Seahawks at Los Angeles Rams

Everyone and their mother had written off Jared Goff as a bust after a disastrous rookie season. Yet here we are, four weeks into the season, and Goff has the second-best quarterback rating in the league. Behind an eye-popping 9.16 yards per attempt and seven touchdowns, Goff has the Rams at 3-1 and challenging Seattle for NFC West supremacy.

Facing the Seahawks, which remain one of the premier defensive units in the NFL, will be Goff’s biggest test to date. Seattle is fresh off a two defensive touchdown performance. Sure, that was against the mediocre Jacoby Brissett, but their play-making ability can’t be ignored.

Defense will likely decide this division battle. We’re not ready to crown Goff as the “next big thing” yet and Seattle’s offense has struggled in their own right. Expect a low-scoring slugfest come Sunday.

Pick: Under
