Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, Giants: NFL 2010 NFC East Division Odds

You can pick any division in the NFL but you would be very hard pressed to find one that is more competitive, or tougher to win, than the NFC East.

Early season odds have the Cowboys as the favorites over the  Giants, Eagles and Redskins to win the 2010 NFC East title. The Cowboys have been perennial favorites in the NFL for decades and have extra motivation this year as Super Bowl XLV is being played at Cowboys Stadium in February.

Dallas Battles to Compete in Super Bowl XLV In Cowboys Stadium

Dallas has all the talent to take control of this division, but it’s hard to know whether the Cowboys are ready to turn the corner. Tony Romo has weapons all around him from Felix Jones and Marion Barber in the backfield to Miles Austin and rookie Dez Bryant at wideout, to tight end Jason Witten.

The Cowboys return all but two of their starters from last year, but do have a couple of injury concerns on the offensive line. Starting right tackle Marc Colombo and left guard Kyle Kosier went down to injury in preseason, so that will be an initial concern for the offense. Dallas would like nothing more than to play in Super Bowl XLV in their own backyard.

The New Look NFC East: Old Faces in New Places

The Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb era has begun in Washington. The Redskins made some big waves with those acquisitions in the offseason, but it feels like this club is starting all over again – again. Shanahan is reunited with running back Clinton Portis, who has considerably more miles on him since the last time they were together. Portis can still get it done, but doesn’t have the same explosive burst as he once had.

McNabb should help an offense that is relying on aging veterans at many of the skill positions, including wideout. Joey Galloway and Santana Moss will need to have big years for Washington to contend.

Kevin Kolb takes over as Philadelphia’s starting quarterback – at least for now. The Eagles want to give him every opportunity to take the starting job, but it’s hard to know how that will play out with Michael Vick still sitting behind him on the depth chart. There won’t be many changes to Philly’s weekly game plans – they’ll still throw the ball all over the field no matter who’s taking the snaps.

With two young wideouts in DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, that makes a lot of sense. Both of those wideouts are gamebreakers and should have big seasons. Adding veteran linebacker Ernie Simms will go a long way to help the defense stay on track.

New York Giants Looking to Rebound in the NFC East

The New York Giants suffered a terrible collapse after beginning last season 5-0. With Eli Manning leading the way, the Giants consistently put up good numbers on offense, averaging 25 points a game, but had a horrible time on defense. They allowed a franchise-record 427 points during the NFL 2009 season.

Perry Fewell comes in as the new defensive coordinator to try to right the ship with a few other new faces in the mix. Linebacker Keith Bullock as well as DB Antrel Rolle and Deon Grant will help tighten up the defense.

Odds to win the NFC East

Dallas Cowboys +125

New York Giants +220

Philadelphia Eagles +350

Washington Redskins +400
