LSU – Oklahoma State: Top NCAA College Football BCS Polls
Bowl Championship Series haters aren’t very happy today as the BCS National Championship picture is a whole lot clearer after the Week 11 NCAA College Football action. Oklahoma State and LSU are the only undefeated teams in the Nation, leaving a clear cut top two in the BCS Standings.
After a somewhat crazy, not to mention sad, weekend of NCAA Football, Louisiana State University and Oklahoma State are both undefeated, and they sit one-two at the top all three college football polls.
One has to go all the way down to the number seven spot before you find a discrepancy in the Associated Press Top 25, the Coaches Top 25, and the Bowl Championship Series standings.
LSU Tigers Snare All 60 NCAA AP Top 25 Poll Votes
After a 42-9 beat down of lowly Western Kentucky, the LSU Tigers garnered all 60 first place votes in this weeks AP Top 25 football poll. You have to go back to Week 10 of the 2008 college football season to find the last team to accomplish that feat. The Texas Longhorns were 8-0 that season, but dropped to 8-1 (#5 AP Poll) after Texas Tech defeated them 39-33 the following week.
Don’t expect the Tigers to repeat that scenario this coming Saturday as LSU will play at Olde Miss who are 2-8 overall but 0-6 in SEC play. The next “Big One” for LSU comes in two weeks, during Thanksgiving Weekend, as they host the Arkansas Razerbacks at Tiger Stadium. Arkansas sits at #6 in the BCS Standings after they shredded Tennessee 49-7 on Saturday.
Top Five In BCS Standings Battle For Championship Positioning
While LSU, Oklahoma State, and Alabama retained their top three BCS rankings respectively, both Stanford and Boise State were pushed out of the top five all together. Stanford (9-1) suffered their first loss of the season as they were humbled 53-30 by Oregon. The Ducks (9-1) moved up to the four spot in the BCS standings and suddenly have another shot (though slim) at playing in the BCS Championship game.
Boise State (8-1) was also cruising along, with an undefeated record, but dropped a heartbreaking 36-35 decision to TCU at Bronco Stadium on Saturday. The loss drops the Broncos all the way down to #10 in the BCS standings. By virtue of their 45-21 drubbing of Texas A&M on Saturday, the Oklahoma Sooners move up one spot to round out the top five.
There is still a lot of football to be played but, the LSU Tigers have a very good shot at winning the NCAA Football Championship on their home turf. The BCS National Championship, presented by Allstate, will be played on Jan. 9, 2012, from the Superdome in New Orleans, LA.
