Preakness Stakes: New Shooters Join Kentucky Derby Contenders

Triple Crown horse racing continues this weekend as we eagerly anticipate the Post Position draw that’s scheduled for May 16, 2012, at approximately 5:45 PM ET. Ahead of 137th Running of the Preakness Stakes, today we take a look a couple of horses that did not run in the Kentucky Derby. Are any of the new shooters worthy of your Preakness betting cash? We don’t see a non-Kentucky Derby runner winning the Preakness.

In A Tough Preakness Field: Zetterholm Steps Up In Class

Coming off three straight wins, New York-bred Zetterholm is taking a monster leap in class after he last ran in the Patsyprospect race that carried a $75,000 purse – to the Preakness that has one million dollar total prize. On hold for the most of the race, and last in the field of six at the top of the stretch, Zettholm exploded to win by two lengths. He will need a monumental trip to win the Preakness but – he may figure in the Pick Three!

Cozzetti Looks To Avenge Bodemeister’s Romp In The Arkansas Derby

Albaugh Family Stables LLC brings Cozzetti to the Pimlico Race course in Baltimore, Maryland, after skipping the Run for the Rose in the Kentucky Derby. Cozzetti ran decent from off the pace in his last outing, a fourth place finish in the $1 Million G1 Arkansas Derby. As will be the case on Saturday, Cozzetti couldn’t catch Bodemeister as the eventual Kentucky Derby runner-up romped to a nine-length win in his Derby prep.
