NBC Sports, the NHL, and Discover have teamed up to bring fans of the National Hockey League the first ever NHL Thanksgiving Showdown. The Boston Bruins will host the Detroit Red Wings on Black Friday.
National Hockey League fans get a US Thanksgiving Weekend treat as the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins will meet for some “Black Friday” puck action. This contest features two of the most dominant, along with the hottest, teams in the entire league.
Puck drop for the first NHL Thanksgiving Showdown is slated for 1:00 PM ET on Friday, November 25, 2011, from TD Garden Arena in, Boston, Massachusetts.
Boston Bruins Cruising Along With Ten Staight Wins
NHL Original Six teams meet in Beantown on Friday as Boston and Detroit hook up for their only regular season match-up during the NHL 2011-12 regular season schedule.
Boston (13-7-0) after a 3-7 start to the season, looks like they have recovered from their Stanley Cup hangover as they have reeled off ten straight wins. After closing October with three loses, the Bruins have yet to lose during the month of November.
If they can get past the Wings today, then the Jets and Leafs in their next two games, Boston would earn a perfect November. It would be the first perfect month in modern day NHL history.
Red Wings Ride Roller Coaster NHL 2011-12 Regular Season
Detroit has been up and down all season. The Red Wings opened the the season with five consecutive wins and then dropped six straight contests. Since then, Detroit has won seven of their last nine games, including three straight. The Wings last played on Wednesday when they defeated the Calgary Flames 5-3 in Motown.
This is the 578 meeting between these legendary franchises, though just their tenth match-up since the 2002 season. Detroit won 4-2 at home and 6-1 in Boston to sweep the 2010-11 series.
