Sportsbooks For Denver Broncos

If you’re a fan of the Denver Broncos, the off-season should have been one of joy and delight. A Super Bowl title was earned by the Broncos, the first won by the team since 1999 and the third in franchise history. But then it all quickly came apart. Quarterbac Peyton Manning, as was expected, announced his retirement, but the bombshell that shattered the warm, fuzzy feeling of a Super Bowl win came when back-up Brock Osweiler opted for free agency and jumped to the Houston Texans.

That means Trevor Siemian, the 250th pick of the 2015 NFL draft as the only returning quarterback on the Denver roster.

Trevor Siemian entered training camp as the only Denver Broncos quarterback who’d taken a regular-season snap for the team, and that’s how many he’s taken – one, a game-ending kneel down.

Journeyman veteran Mark Sanchez, who’s played for the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles, was signed as a free agent. He’s started 72 NFL regular-season games and six playoff tilts. The Broncos also traded up in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft, moving from 31st to 26th overall to claim Memphis Tigers quarterback Paxton Lynch in the first round.

Lynch is the future but how rapidly that future becomes now will be determined by how well Sanchez and/or Siemian perform under center to start the 2016 NFL season.

Meanwhile, instead of delivering hits, the dominant Denver defense was taking them. Linebacker Von Miller, the Super Bowl 50 MVP, found himself embroiled in a difficult contract dispute, while defensive back Aqib Talib was shot.

Denver Broncos Standings Today

The AFC West standings right here for your perusal and when searching out the Denver Broncos in recent years, the wisest alternative was to go from top to bottom. [+]

Five straight AFC West Division titles have been captured by the Broncos and they’ve won at least 12 regular-season games every season since 2012. The Broncos have encountered just one losing season since 2008 and only one double-digit loss campaign since 2000. Denver played in 10 playoff games between 2011-15.

Is this the year that run of success comes to a screeching halt due to their issues at quarterback and their personnel losses on defense? There is a haunting parallel to consider. John Elway, at 38, became the oldest quarterback to win the Super Bowl when the Broncos beat the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII and then retired. Denver went 6-10 in 1999.

Peyton Manning, 39, supplanted Elway as the oldest Super Bowl-winning QB when Denver won Super Bowl 50, and then retired. This is one case where Broncos fans don’t want to see history repeat itself.

How To Make Money Betting On Denver Broncos

The Broncos were 12-4 in 2015 and 6-2 straight up at home, but when it came to covering, the Broncos didn’t often do it, especially at home, where they were just 3-5 against the spread.

The Broncos play their home games is Sports Authority Field at Mile High, so named because that is exactly how far the city of Denver is above sea level. And that altitude definitely impacts the outcome of NFL games.

Besides the effect the altitude can have on visiting players, it definitely is a kicker’s dream. The lighter air means that on average, kickoffs travel approximately 10 yards further in Denver than in other NFL cities. And three of the four longest field goals made in the history of the NFL were booted in Denver, including Matt Prater’s NFL record 64-yard kick against the Tennessee Titans in 2013.

No team in the NFL is better at losing the Super Bowl than the Denver Broncos. The Broncos joined the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills as teams that dropped each of their first four Super Bowl appearances. Whle those two teams stopped, the Broncos kept coming back and won back-to-back Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998 to go with their Super Bowl 50 win, but managed to lose a record fifth Super Bowl before winning their third.

The Broncos own the largest margin of Super Bowl defeat when they fell 55-10 to the San Francisco 49ers in Super XXIV. They also lost 43-8 to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XVLIII and 42-10 to the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XXII.

Denver’s five Super Bowl losses have come by an average margin of deficit of 29.6 points.

It was a smothering defense that won Super Bowl 50 for the Denver Broncos, just as it was a smothering defense that got the Broncos to Super Bowl 50. Denver was the best total defense in the NFL in 2015, allowing just 283.1 yards per game. The Broncos were also the top passing defense in the league, hollding opponents to a meagre 199.6 yards per game through the air. On the ground, teams fared a bit better against the Denver defense. The 83.6 yards of rushing surrendered by the Broncos was third-best in the NFL.

Denver allowed 18.5 points per game in 2015 and only three teams in the league were more frugal in allowing the opposition to change the digits on the scoreboard. Six times in 16 regular-season games the Broncos permitted fewer than 20 points to be scored.
