Alex Rins is the defending champion. His lone win of the 2023 campaign came at COTA, a track he has a history of success with now. Since entering MotoGP, Rins has missed the top four at this event on one occasion only. He also won in 2019. That means he’s the only active rider with multiple wins here aside from Marquez.

However, Rins has gotten off to a slow start in 2023. In the season-opener in Qatar, he finished 16th. That was followed by 13th in Portugal. Those two bad outings have Rins 18th overall in the season standings. Yes, it’s just two races, but that’s not the type of momentum you want going into COTA.

Elsewhere in the standings, Martin is leading the 2024 board. He won a close race in Portugal to put him over the top. Martin was also on the podium in Qatar so it was no fluke win. The Spaniard is outperforming other Ducati drivers, including reigning champion Bagnaia, who is fourth.

As expected, Ducati is dominating the field again. Three of the top four right now are Ducati drivers (Bastianini is third overall). The lone non-Ducati driver ranking high in the standings is second-place Binder, who finished on the podium last time out in Qatar.

Betting Advice For Grand Prix of the Americas

Our Grand Prix of the Americas betting advice is two-fold. Not only will we be telling you who to bet to win, but we’ll also be sharing who to NOT bet. The latter can be just as important. Here are three pieces of advice ahead of the race:

Bet Bastianini

It’s been a comeback season of sorts for Bastianini. He has a fifth and second-place finish this season — exactly what he needed after a 2023 campaign to forget. The Italian battled multiple injuries that derailed his performance. That was then and this is now though because Bastianini is back.

At COTA, Bastianini returns to a track he’s won before. He was triumphant in 2022 for those that remember. We wouldn’t be surprised if Bastianini gets a second victory. He’s riding with a lot of momentum right now, and it’s never a bad idea to align yourself with that.

Do Not Bet Bagnaia

Bagnaia is the literal definition of a boom-or-bust bet just about every time he steps onto a track. If he finishes the races, there’s a strong chance he’s winning. But if he crashes, well, your bet is going up in smoke too. That’s been the MO of the Italian’s career and it’s carried into this season.

The reigning champion began his title defense with a victory in Qatar. That was followed in Portugal with a crash with Marquez, another accident-prone driver.

Returning to COTA, Bagnaia said he’s looking to “redeem himself.” That might be in reference to the Portugal incident or crashing out at this very event a year ago. Bagnaia was en route to winning the 2023 COTA event before falling off his bike.

For this reason, we’re fading Bagnaia. He might win, but the threat of a crash is too much to justify his short betting odds. There’s just better value elsewhere in our opinion.

Do Bet Marquez

All right, we know we just avoided Bagnaia cause of his crash issues. So why are we vouching for Marquez here when he has the same problems? Because his betting odds are longer, that’s why. It’s simply a decision on risk-to-reward.

Look, Marquez is a seven-time winner of this event. That’s an all-time record, which makes him worth a look no matter what. We saw him take fourth in Qatar when he was able to finish a race with his new Ducati bike so you know he’s got a shot barring a crash. Marquez is the perfect alternate bet in this spot.
