Monaco Grand Prix Preview

We must begin our preview of the Monaco Grand Prix in one place — a look at the current betting odds. Surprisingly, it isn’t dominated as much by Red Bull like previous races. Here is who the current Formula 1 odds to win the Monaco GP:

DriversBovadaBetUSBetOnline
Max Verstappen-150-150-150
Lando Norris+400+400+400
Charles Leclerc+450+450+450
Oscar Pisastri+1200+1200+1200
Carlos Sainz+1600+1600+1600
Sergio Perez+2000+2000+2000

Red Bull has been pushed to the limit the past two races. At the Miami Grand Prix, Norris become only the second driver not named Verstappen to win a race this season. Then last week at the Emila Romagna Grand Prix, Verstappen edged Norris by less than a second to take the win. Were both results flukes or is the gap being closed on Red Bull? Monaco will give us a good idea of what’s going on.

Adding fuel to the fire are the struggles of Perez. Last week out, he finished eighth overall. He’s “only” third in the season standings, but that’s not up to par with the Red Bull standard. There’s been heavy talk about whether Perez will return to the team next season, and that’s only heated up the past few weeks. But in Monaco, Perez is returning to an event he’s won before, back in 2022.

Red Bull has won this event three times in a row. Perez’s 2022 win was sandwiched by victories by Verstappen in 2021 and 2023. The last time a non-Red Bull driver won at Monaco was in 2019 when Lewis Hamilton pulled off first (the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic).

Outside of Verstappen and Norris, eyes are on Leclerc this weekend. He’s born in Monaco, but he’s not fared well in his home race. The Ferrari driver owns zero wins and zero podium finishes. He’s won the pole on two occasions (2021 and 2022) but failed to capitalize both times out. His best finish is fourth overall.

Best Bets For 2024 Monaco Grand Prix

We’ll be spreading our money out when it comes to Monaco Grand Prix betting. That means taking shots on multiple bets and multiple drivers. Here’s what’s falling out attention the most out of all the F1 bets available over the weekend:

Podium Finish Prop

DriversBovadaBetUSBetOnline
Max Verstappen-500-500-500
Lando Norris-170-170-170
Charles Leclerc-170-170-170
Oscar Pisastri+130+130+130
Carlos Sainz+140+140+140
Sergio Perez+200+200+200
Fernando Alonso+900+900+900
George Russell+1800+1800+1800
Lewis Hamilton+1800+1800+1800

You’d be crazy not to throw some money on Norris here. Him and Verstappen have finished in the top-two the past three races — just in a different order. The McClaren driver has caught fire after a slow start to the season. If you believe in “riding the hot hand”, then Norris is the must-make bet in this prop.

The good thing about this prop is there’s more ways to win than one since three drivers get podium spots. So we’ll be making a second wager on Perez. We’ve talked about his struggles already, but historically, street races bring out the best in Perez. If there’s ever a race for the Mexican driver to bounce back, it’s this one.

Race Winner

You won’t be surprised to see we’re advocating a bet on Verstappen here for reasons you already know — he’s still the best driver on the planet despite being pushed to the limits as of late. Throw in his checkered past in Monaco, and it’s an obvious play.

The fact that he’s only -150 to win is extra incentive to bet on the three-time-reigning world champion. That’s a far cry from the -500 and up betting lines he’s received at other events. Don’t overthink this wager and take Verstappen to win Monaco a third time in his illustrious career.
