2022 Olympics — Ice Hockey Betting Pick
The Winter Games is full of obscure sports competitions like biathlon shooting, bobsledding, luge, among others, but ice hockey is perhaps the event with the most "mainstream" appeal, particularly to Americans. Therefore, we had to start off by offering an Olympic ice hockey betting pick. Here are the current betting odds to win, set by the most-used online sportsbooks:
However, NHL talent will NOT be present in Beijing. After a surge of COVID cases stateside, the league pulled its players from participating in the Olympics. That's why the United States and Canada's betting lines to win are relatively low — its rosters hardly consist of the "best of the best." Those two countries' losses are everyone else's gain, especially with our betting selection.
And that would be ROC (Russian Olympic Committee). Don't get us wrong, the country will also be missing big-name stars from the NHL (Alex Ovechkin most notably), but it will be pulling studs from its domestic league, the KHL. Canada and USA don't have this luxury as the NHL is where all the pro talent go. Russia won gold here four years ago and we're betting they repeat again!
2022 Olympics — Cross Country Skiing 15 KM Interval Pick
|Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo||+275||+275|
|Hans Christer Holund||+2000||+2000|
The betting field is absolutely loaded in this event. We could realistically see five different skiers gutting out a gold medal here. However, if we can only make one cross country skiing pick it would be Johannes Hosflot Klaebo of Norway. He had his "coming out party" at these games in 2018, but we believe he's ready for the "big time" four years later.
To jog your memory, the Norwegian became the youngest male to ever win an Olympic event in cross-country skiing at the ripe age of 21. He added two more golds in South Korea, tying him for the most in the 2018 Games. If he could do that as a relative newcomer, then the sky really is the limit in Beijing. Klaebo performed well at the recent World Cup too so the momentum is there. We sure like Klaebo's betting value at +275!
2022 Olympics — Country To Win Most Gold Medals
As you can see above, oddsmakers across the land are in full agreement: Norway is going to dominate in Beijing. Norway are overwhelming favorites to win the most gold medals in 2022, and for good reason. The Norwegians had the greatest showing of a single country at these games four years ago. In Pyeongchang, they claimed a record of 39 medals in total with 14 of them being gold.
After that historic showing, Norway has widened the gap between them and the United States in the all-time medal count at the Winter Olympics. They are now up to 368 — 63 ahead of the United States and 128 in front of third-place Germany. All things considered, that -500 betting line might be on the light side given Norway's all-time dominance in winter sports.
But you know what? We're still not going to bet on Norway here. There's just not a lot of money to be made on -500 odds unless you have a massive — and we mean massive — betting bankroll. If you fall in that category, then by all means lay a large bet on the favorites. But if you don't have that kind of cash lying around, here's an under-the-radar play.
Bet on the Germans instead! They fared quite well four years ago too. Germany actually tied Norway for gold medals at 14 but was eight off in the total medal count thanks to fewer silver and bronze finishes. At +500, that's a real solid value for a country loaded with top-shelf talent across most events.
