The semi-main event features another pair of welterweights — one is an ex-champ and the other is a new signee. Koreshkov is the former champ, having held the belt in 2015 and 2016. He’s fallen to No. 9 in the weight class rankings but is still a considerable favorite to win against Rencountre, who went 2-2 in UFC before being cut.
We look at a guy like Rencountre and nothing particularly stands out about him. He’s 36 years old now and holds a respectable 16-4 record, but there are no real highlights. Rencontre isn’t a bad wrestler, but he’s also not worldly at it either.
Koreshkov, on the other hand, is still a dangerous fighter. He’s five years younger than his opponent, but far more experienced with 28 career fights (of which he’s won 24). Koreshkov will want to keep this fight standing up, which he should be able to do given his above-average takedown defense. If it’s a striking match, Koreshkov has a clear advantage, and look for him to win by knockout.
