Woodbine Mile 2023 Best Bet
War Bomber is an in-form horse who can get the right trip, making him the best bet in the 2023 Woodbine Mile. He comes out of a stalk-and-pounce win in the King Edward (G2), showing form over the sweeping Woodbine course. He stalked a fast pace and won that day, something he will likely have to do again with My Sea Cottage looking like a rabbit.
Furthermore, War Bomber will be a solid price given his good current form since he comes in for a local barn and not a better-known one. Norm McKnight has won a lot of races in Canada (and at Oaklawn), but the fact that he isn’t a big-name trainer means War Bomber will be a better price than he would be otherwise.
Woodbine Mile 2023 Exotics Horses
Charlie Appleby must mark his calendar for the Woodbine Mile, because he has built a habit of shipping live contenders to the race in recent years. Master of the Seas looks like another quality entrant. He won’t get the early jump on My Sea Cottage and War Bomber, though he is pace-versatile and his group-level class should put him in a good place against this level of foes.
Trainer Mark Casse sends out half of the six-horse field; the best of the bunch is Ice Chocolat. He rallied for a good third behind Casa Creed in the Fourstardave at Saratoga. However, that effort marks him as more of an underneath type than a win candidate here; he had My Sea Cottage to set some pace for him that day, too, but didn’t get all the way there.
The best chance for value underneath is to bet that the aforementioned My Sea Cottage hangs on for a share. He wasn’t a bad fourth when taking a massive class rise for the Fourstardave, and he should do better over this one-turn mile than the two turns at Saratoga. On the other hand Shirl’s Speight is better at two turns, while Lucky Score needs more early pace to close into.
