US Open Futures: Predicting Men and Women's Tourney Winners

US Open Futures: Predicting Men and Women's Tourney Winners

We’ve saved the best for last! The famed US Open — the fourth and final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year — serves up on August 28. It’s now or never to lock in a futures bet. For those struggling to pick winners among a stacked field, we have you covered with tips and our free picks!

The tennis season will soon draw to a close, but not before a must-see showdown at the US Open.

The biggest stars in the sport will descend onto New York City for the event, attempting to cap the 2019 season with a Grand Slam title and a share of the $57 million in prize money at stake.

Days before the 139th edition of the tournament, here are the two favorites on the men and women's side, including their tennis odds to win:

  • Novak Djokovic (+110)
  • Serena Williams (+350)

But before we get into our US Open expert picks, a quick refresher on the types of sportsbook bonus available online today. Taking advantage of one of these bonuses can increase a payout — on top of getting the US Open picks correct. Speaking of that, here are our predictions on both singles tournaments:

Welp, no surprise whatsoever at the three names atop the men's US Open odds 2019 per online sportsbooks. Here are the current lines:

  • Novak Djokovic (+110)
  • Rafael Nadal (+400)
  • Roger Federer (+600)
  • Danii Medvedev (+1600)
  • Alexander Zverev (+2000)

Just like every other tournament, the "Big Three" has completely owned the US Open this century.

Since 2004, only four times has a player not named Djokovic, Nadal, or Federer claimed this Grand Slam title. Federer has the most wins at five, while Djokovic and Nadal both have three victories apiece.

The reigning champion, Djokovic, is trying to put a bow on another dominant year. He's looking for Grand Slam number three in 2019 after wins at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

The hard courts of New York typically suit Djokovic, who uses his athleticism and endurance to outlast foes. He's ended up in the US Open finals seven of the past nine years now. With that incredible track record at this tournament and 2019 as a whole, Djokovic is an automatic bet here.

Though, we will say Medvedev is a great flyer bet to take. Look, everyone is going to wager with one of the Big Three (if not money on each one). The 23-year-old Russian is being overlooked — despite upsetting Djokovic at the Cincinnati Masters just last week.

Beating him at a Grand Slam tourney is a whole other challenge, but at steep +1600 odds, that's worthy prayer bet to take. Just make sure it's a small bet.

Betting pick: Djokovic (+110)

Women's Tournament Outlook

Halep's victory over Serena in the Wimbledon finals wasn't enough to convince oddsmakers to peg her as the US Open favorite. On the ladies' side, here are the current odds to win US Open:

  • Serena Williams (+350)
  • Simona Halep (+700)
  • Naomi Osaka (+800)
  • Ashleigh Barty (+1000)
  • Bianca Andreescu (+1200)

Williams is the sucker's bet — there we said it! Her recent history doesn't justify her having the best US Open tennis odds.

She's fresh off a first-round withdrawal at the Cincinnati Masters due to a back injury, the same injury that forced her out Rogers Cup the week before that. That's now been the consistent story of Williams' injury-riddled 2019 campaign.

Her pursuit of a record-tying 24th Grand Slam title will also be the narrative of this US Open, but we just don't see it happening. The injuries have surely affected her preparation and at almost 38 years old, her body just doesn't recover as fast as it once did. Betting on Williams is a hard no from us.

Staying on the topic of injuries, that's also the lingering question mark for tournament one seed and reigning champion, Osaka.

It was a year ago that Osaka burst onto the scene by toppling her childhood idol, Williams, in the US Open title game. Now, like Williams, Osaka is only days removed from exiting the Cincinnati Masters with a knee injury. On such a short turnaround, the grueling style of the US Open isn't exactly conducive to healing quick.

This all sets up a tournament that anyone can seemingly win. Both Halep and Barty are good choices, though. Splitting your betting money between the two is the ideal scenario.

But in the event you can only choose one, wager with two-seeded Barty. Her body of work this year suggests she's WTA Player of the Year-caliber. Moreover, she's only two years removed from winning this very tournament.

Betting pick: Barty (+1000)
