To no one’s surprise, oddsmakers have the title hunt as a two-team race between, who else, Man City and Liverpool. You always have to give Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp the benefit of the doubt, especially after the upgrades each side made this offseason. New strikers will be at the helm for each club — Erling Haaland (Man City) and Darwin Nunez (Liverpool). The playmakers replace Raheem Sterling (now at Chelsea) and Sadio Mane (Bayern Munich now).
To us, City is the team to beat once again. Guardiola’s side has won the league four out of the past five seasons and we sense its summer upgrades will turn out better. Haaland is an improvement upon White, and that’s not to discredit the latter, but Haaland could quite possibly become the world’s best striker in a few short years. Only 22 years of age, Haaland has been a scoring machine for both club and country. He netted 20 goals in 21 games for Norway and left Dortmund having scored 86 times in 89 matches. Yeah, he’s deadly.
Outside of Haaland, the club also acquired Argentine striker Julian Alvarez. Because of his play-making ability and Argentine roots, he’s drawing comparison’s to the club’s all-time top goal-scorer, Sergio Aguero. Like Aguero, the 22-year-old Alvarez has a knack for dribbling past defenders to score from close range and distance.
It will be interesting to see how Guardiola deploys the two. Our hunch is Alvarez gets time at winger, while Haaland becomes the unquestionably starting striker. That’s a deadly strategy and should help put Man City over the top despite stiff competition from The Reds.
Best Bet To Win Golden Boot
Just as fierce as the league title will be so will the battle for Golden Boot, the award given to EPL’s top goal-scorer. Here’s who the top-rated soccer betting sites are pegging as the top favorites to lead the EPL in goals:

Well, well, look who the betting favorite is — the aforementioned Haaland. As we’ve stated, the sky is the limit for Haaland. But despite that, we don’t expect to see him to lead the EPL in goals in year one. We mean, even for a talent of Haaland's caliber, there will be an adjustment period in the most competitive league in the whole world.
Our money is either on Harry Kane (Tottenham) or Salah, who shared the 2022 award with Kane’s teammate, Son Heung-Min. Speaking of which, we think Heung-Min’s emergence actually hurts Kane’s chances for Golden Boot. Yes, Kane is the team’s penalty kicker still, but the offense won’t run solely through him like in year’s past — not with Heung-Min being such a threat of his own.
We’re going with a Liverpool player— only it's not Salah, but his new teammate, Nunez. The newcomer might actually become the team’s main penalty-taker this season, or at least share duties with Salah. But more than anything, we just believe the Reds high-flying attack will give both players endless scoring chances. Our money says it will be Nunez who makes the most of ‘em and wins Golden Boot.
Over/Under 5.5 Goals: Christian Pulisic
Ah, yes, “Captain America” is an interesting case study. He’s fallen out of favor at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel despite the $73-million contract inked before Tuchel took helm of the club. That’s why oddsmakers have set Pulisic's season goal total at a modest 5.5:

Pulisic was the subject of transfer rumors most the summer but it looks like he’s staying put. Still, he might struggle to get on the field. Chelsea is loaded up front — not only with the aforementioned Sterling, but also with wingers Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who will likely start over Pulisic. Injuries might be the best opportunity for Pulisic to get on the field and that’s hard to bank on as a bettor.
We’re taking the under on Pulisic. He’s under contract through 2024, but this could be the beginning of the end of Pulisic’s time at Stamford Bridge.
