As a Brazil native, the 43-year-old Teixeira will be fighting on home soil. His spot in the main event doesn’t come as a surprise, but Hill’s does. Most figured the 31-year-old Hill (who is ranked No. 7 in the division) was a few more wins away from a title chance but was fast-tracked after the UFC 282 draw.
The last time we saw Teixeira was at UFC 274. He lost an all-time classic fight to Jiri Prochazka via fifth-round submission. For what it’s worth, Teixeira was ahead on the scorecards before the late submission. Still, at his age, this feels like Teixeira’s last-gasp try at reclaiming the weight class’ top spot — in front of a partisan crowd, no less.
We’re fully in the camp that believes Hill doesn’t deserve this title fight — and his inexperience will be his undoing. It was only 18 months ago that Hill was stopped by Paul Craig in under two minutes (the only defeat in Hill’s career). Sure, he’s rallied off three straight wins after, but the opponents (Jimmy Crute, Johnny Walker, and Thiago Santos) have been very meh. Even if he’s past his prime, Teixeira is more dangerous than any of those fighters, especially if he fights as he did against Prochazka.

Deiveson Figueiredo vs Brandon Moreno Betting Pick
One of the best fight series in UFC history goes to Chapter 4 at UFC 283. Each of the three fights ended in a different result — a draw, a Moreno win, and most recently a Figueiredo victory. Figueiredo is the slight betting favorite, as he should be since he’s also the home country fighter. Though, the Brazilian-born Figueiredo has been out of action for an entire year after beating Moreno by a unanimous decision last time out. Moreno finished Kai Kara-France in July to claim the interim UFC flyweight title while title-holder Figueiredo was sidelined. The unified title is on the line here, but this feels more like a “legacy” fight for each of the two dominant flyweights.
This is as difficult as a fight to predict given what we’ve seen so far. The big variable to account for is Figueiredo. His hand injury was severe enough to keep him on the shelf for this long (plus some contract disputes too). Plus, at 35 years old, his fighting career has fewer miles ahead of it than behind. There’s reason to believe Figueiredo’s skills could be in decline.
We’d say the opposite for the 29-year-old Moreno. His war with Kara-France was impressive. For one, Moreno ate some massive shots that night. His chin is likely strong enough to withstand anything Figueiredo throws at him. And of course, Moreno dealt back the punishment on his way to the knockout victory. Moreno has shown a knack for improving every fight, and that could vault him to a win in such a toss-up bout.
The UFC has never had a four-right series in history. This rivalry is every bit deserving to enter the history books with Moreno’s hand raised in victory. With less mileage and ring rust, his punches and technique will be slightly sharper than the home-crowd favorite Figueiredo.
