Expert Super Bowl 57 Predictions: Bet On Chiefs Or Eagles?

Super Bowl 57 has zero shortage of storylines. It's the first time two starting black quarterbacks — Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts — meet for a title. The Kelce Brothers, Travis and Jason, face off against one another. It's also the Andy Reid Bowl, as the Chiefs' head coach spent more than a decade with the Eagles before. But most of all, it's the two best teams in the NFL all season finally meeting one on one with the championship on the line. Keep reading for expert betting predictions on the Super Bowl moneyline, over/under, and spread!

Super Bowl 57 Game Preview

Philadelphia is returning to its first Super Bowl since beating New England back in 2017, and honestly, they waltzed right into this game. The Eagles outscored the Giants and 49ers by a combined 69-14 to earn this "nice" spot. However, don't expect the Chiefs to fall into that category, not with Mahomes at quarterback. Any Super Bowl game preview has to start with him since he's arguably the best in the league at his position.

Behind Mahomes, Kansas City led the league in points per game (28.2 points) and yards per play (6.4) during the regular season — this despite losing Mahomes' favorite target, Tyreek Hill, leaving during the offseason. Compared to Daniel Jones, Brock Purdy, and Josh Johnson, the three quarterbacks Philadelphia played in the postseason's first two games, Mahomes is a massive step up in competition, even with a high ankle sprain. The good thing for Mahomes is he has two weeks to nurse the injury, which seemingly only mildly affected him in the AFC title game.

For what it's worth, Hurts isn't 100 percent healthy himself. A shoulder injury sidelined Hurts toward the end of the season. Yes, he's played each of the past two games, but at a somewhat limited capacity. Hurts has thrown only for 275 yards this playoff run, not that he's needed to with Philly's domination on defense. But expecting the same type of defensive domination against Mahomes is probably not reasonable.

Super Bowl 57 Betting Picks

In this article, we're going to cover strictly the main Super Bowl 57 bets on the game itself. That means the moneyline, over/under, and spread. Props are not on the agenda here, but stick with us, cause there's as much money to be made with the traditional bets.

Hurts and Mahomes are the top-two MVP candidates for the season. However, that doesn't mean the top-used Super Bowl sportsbooks are expecting an offensive palooza come game-time. Right now, the over/under is set to a "manageable" 49.5 points across the sportsbook marketplace.

We can't discuss this bet without bringing up the Eagles' insanely-good defense. It all starts with the consistent pressure they bring to opposing quarterbacks. This season, Philadelphia racked up 70 sacks. Not only did that lead the NFL, but it was actually the third most of all time. If Mahomes remains gimpy-legged, then the Eagles have a real chance at making his life a nightmare come game time.

At the same time, Kansas City also excels in the same category: getting to the quarterback. The team compiled 55 sacks this season, which ranked second to Philadelphia. The Chiefs used that pressure to cancel out the "Burrowhead" narrative and force the Bengals quarterback into two costly interceptions last time out.

We foresee both offenses struggling to put together long drives because of these ferocious defensive lines. All it takes is one sack to kill a drive or force a field goal instead of a touchdown. We're taking the under 49.5 points in this one!

We need to circle back to coach Reid. It's hard to believe now after Reid won his 21st playoff game — second most of all time (10 wins behind Bill Belichick) — but the coach was run out of town in Philadelphia for being "good, but not great." Three impact players on the Eagles' roster (Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, and Jason Kelce) all played under Reid while he was still in Philly.

Just like Mahomes is the clear-cut better quarterback, there's no denying Reid is a better head coach than Philly's Nick Sirianni. Having those two upper hands at the two most important positions is not a small advantage for the Chiefs. For that reason, we're picking them to cover the spread.

We'll be honest: the Eagles had one of the flukiest runs to the Super Bowl we've ever seen. That's not to say they aren't talented up and down the roster because they most certainly were. But they've had a very marginal competition the whole way. Before they beat up on a quarterback-deprived 49ers team or a mediocre Giants squad, Philadelphia had one of the league's easiest regular-season schedules. The Eagles played the NFC North and AFC South — the two worst divisions in football by a mile.

Kirk Cousins, Trevor Lawrence, Aaron Rodgers, and Dak Prescott are the only respectable quarterbacks Philly has played this season. None of those four are even in the same stratosphere as Mahomes this season. For this reason, we expect the fluke run to come to an end as Kansas City wins its second championship in four seasons!
