Bundesliga Returns: How To Bet on the Rest of The Season

Bundesliga Returns: How To Bet on the Rest of The Season

Sports bettors rejoice because Bundesliga is the first major league that will resume its playing season amid the COVD-19 outbreak. The German soccer league will return with a full slate of games on May 16. For futures wagering, we have free advice on four different Bundesliga bets to make right now!

If you're one of the millions of sports bettors hungry for some action, you might be presently asking yourself, "what is Bundesliga" or "what does Bundesliga mean?"

Bundesliga literally translates to "federal league." It's the default term to refer to Germany's top-level soccer league. In many circles, Bundesliga is believed to be the third most-competitive soccer league in all of the world, behind only the English Premier League and Spain's La Liga.

May 16 is when Bundesliga will start up again in empty arenas or "ghost games" as it's being dubbed in Germany. Though, pro sports leagues around the globe will be paying close attention to Bundesliga as they figure out paths to re-opening their respective sports.

Bundesliga is determined to wrap the season by June 30 — when player contracts expire. Assuming the season goes as planned, these are the four futures bets you need to make right away!

Bundesliga Winner

Who will finish atop the table? BetOnline has the odds currently pegged at:

  • Bayern Munich (-600)
  • Borussia Dortmund (+550)
  • RB Leipzig (+800)

Bayern — winners of seven straight titles — is currently clinging to a four-point lead over Dortmund. Leipzig is in the thick of it as well, back only five points.

Bundesliga teams need to play ten or nine games in order to complete the season. That means most will be playing two games a week in order to finish by the June 30 deadline

For newbie soccer bettors, Bayern is the gold standard of the league, think the Yankees or Lakers. They've won the league a whopping 29 times — most in Bundesliga history and 20 more times than the next-best club. That's why we're not going to spend a lot of time convincing you that they're the bet to make here.

However, Dortmund at +550 is worth considering as a darkhorse play. They're nipping right at Bayern's heels, plus the two are scheduled to face off two more times this season. That's two golden opportunities for Dortmund to leapfrog them in the standings.

Dortmund is more than good enough where it could happen. We say take a flyer on them at a small price since it won't take much to earn a heft payout at those staggering odds.

Betting advice: put a light bet on Dortmund (+550) as a pure value pick

Bundesliga Winner Without Bayern Munich

Bayern is such overwhelming favorites to win the league that there's actually a bet for who finishes best besides them. No, really, it's over at BetOnline and looks like this:

  • Borussia Dortmund (-150)
  • RB Leipzig (+110)
  • Bayer Leverkusen (+2500)

We alluded to this already, but we like Dortmund's chances. Three teams are currently within four points of them in second-place — Leipzig (one point), M'gladback (two), and Leverkusen (four). Our money is on Dortmund to hold on as the runner-ups, with an outside shot of overtaking Bayern at first.

The talk at Dortmund most of the year has been centered on a pair of youngsters in Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland. Transfer rumors have swirled around the two, but for now, they remain fixtures for a Dortmund lineup that scores the second-most across Bundesliga.

Betting advice: Borussia Dortmund (-150)

Top Bundesliga Goalscorer

Like Bayern, Robert Lewandowski is the heavy favorite to win the Bundesliga's golden boot award, per oddsmakers:

  • Robert Lewandowski (-500)
  • Timo Werner (+300)
  • Jadon Sancho (+5000)

Playing for Bayern, Lewandowski has won top goal-scorer four of the past six years. He's currently at 25 goals on the season, while Leipzig's Werner is at 21 goals. After those two, it's a steep drop-off with the next-highest scorer being Dortmund's Sancho at just 14 goals.

Upset alert: we like Werner to overtake Lewandowski in this race. Why? Simply put, the schedule ahead fares nicely for him and his Leipzig teammates. Get this, Leipzig will face seven of the worst eight defensive clubs in its remaining nine-game slate.

Not only that, but Werner has proven he can get on a hot streak. Earlier in the season, he netted 14 goals in a nine-game stretch. He'll need to go on a similar tear the rest of the way out to eclipse Lewandowski — which he's certainly capable of, especially against runt of the litter teams.

Betting advice: Werner (+300)

Bundesliga Teams To Be Regulated

The bottom two teams in the table at the season's end will automatically be sent to Bundesliga's second division. Here's how the relegation odds are shaking out:

  • Paderborn (-3333)
  • SV Werder Bremen (-250)
  • Fortuna Dusseldorf (-140)
  • FSV Mainz (+300)

Might as well stick a fork in Paderborn. They're dead last among the 18 league teams at just 16 points. For a team that's won just four times this season, it'll be nearly impossible for them to jump up the safer sixteenth spot (they're six points behind presently). But -3333 is little to no value for bettors.

We like Werder Breman to join Paderborn at the exit door. The wheels really came off for them before the season was put on pause. In its last 11 fixtures, they claimed just one victory.

Betting advice: Paderborn (-3333) and Werder (-250)
