The Calgary Flames have a lot of promise for the future. They may not be playoff contenders at the moment, but have an incredibly talented core of players to pave the future. Last year the Flames made an unlikely playoff appearance and went one better by beating the Vancouver Canucks in the first round. The team came crashing down to Earth during the 2015-16 campaign but have a lot to look forward to in coming years. Led by the 22-year-old Johnny Gaudreau, Calgary has a talented offensive group. [+]

The Flames have an underrated defense whose mobility and puck-moving capabilities compare with the NHL’s best.

Captain Mark Giordano is third in team scoring but it’s his defensive mobility and sound decision making that make him one of the league’s best. He is 40-years-old, however, and doesn’t have too much time remaining playing this kind of hockey. His defensive partner TJ Brodie is a different story entirely. Brodie is 33 years old and trails Giordano for fourth in team scoring.

As you can plainly see, there is a lack of scoring in Calgary. You must, as a franchise, go into crisis-management mode when two of your top four scorers are defensemen. Sean Monahan has the talent to be a brilliant second-line center but shouldn’t, at this stage in his career, be relied upon as a team’s top middle man. He is only 23 years old and has a very bright career ahead of him. The Flames need to get their hands on an experienced, first-class forward and draft well this year.

With a bit of time to gel and grow as a unit, the Flames could be one of the best teams in the league. We think a futures pick in the next three seasons is definitely worth your while.

Calgary Flames Standings Today

We don’t know about you, but we thoroughly enjoy perusing the NHL standings. The Flames aren’t yet contenders for a playoff spot but this will change in the ucpoming seasons. [+]

There is room to maneuver in the Pacific Division, as there is a massive drop in quality after the top three teams. Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Jose are all elite teams that have solidified their roles as divisional frontrunners. The Flames will look to start to make up ground on the top teams by consistently beating Arizona, Edmonton and Vancouver. Those 18 games are all winnable and it’s time for the Flames to start cashing in on important divisional games.

How To Make Money Betting On Calgary Flames

Are the Clagary Flames playing a divisional opponent or going on the road to the west coast? If they're playing in Anaheim, San Jose or Los Angeles away, you should expect a lost. It's almost a certainty in Anaheim.

You'll have a lot more chance of winning cash when you bet for the Flames on home ice. Calgary would be a playoff team if they could play as good on the road as they do at home. Unfortunately, their abysmal away performances have them near the bottom of league standings.

Calgary scores its fair share of goals and is extremely porous in defense. In other words, picking the over in most Flames games is a good idea. At least you know where you stand betting on the Flames. They play a run-and-gun style, one of the primary reasons they'll be on golf courses weeks earlier than they had hoped.
