2021 NFL Draft Prop Bets To Make

2021 NFL Draft Prop Bets To Make

The NFL Draft will be the last taste of football betting until August. Not surprisingly, the prop market for the rookie showcase is red-hot, but there are four bets, in particular, you need to make right now. Read this for our free betting predictions!

We're now days away from the NFL Draft on April 29. While we wait for one of the most exciting nights in all of football, now is a good time to ponder the 2021 NFL Draft prop bets currently available. There are dozens, but we have our eyes (and money) on these four:

No. 3 Overall Draft Pick

It's rare to get a bet that's handicapped so differently among online sportsbooks. This prop is one of those instances, as seen with the listed odds:

PlayerBetOnlineBookmaker
Justin Fields-170+100
Mac Jones+115-250
Trey Lance+500+550

BetOnline has Justin Fields of Ohio State as the clear betting favorite to be chosen in the third spot, while BookMaker is giving Alabama's Mac Jones an even greater chance of being the selection. So what gives?

Of course, this pick belongs to San Francisco. The team dealt three first-round picks to move into this spot from Miami. Obviously, with that "king's ransom" of a trade package, the pick is clearly going to be a quarterback.

Team head coach Kyle Shanahan is one of the game's brightest offensive minds. However, he's become that using traditional quarterbacks. Since his first offensive coordinator job to now, here are the quarterbacks he's hitched his wagon to — Matt Schaub (Houston), Kirk Cousins (Washington), Matt Ryan (Atlanta), and his current signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo.

Between Fields and Jones, which one fits that QB prototype more? Without a doubt, it's Jones. Fields is an athletic specimen, which like many before him with the same pedigree, has serious question marks about his drop-back passing ability. We believe the Niners go with the more polished and safer choice here and that's Jones.

Betting pick: Mac Jones (+115)

Over/Under 6.5 Pick: Trey Lance

Over/UnderBetOnline
Under 6.5 Pick-125
Over 6.5 Pick-115

Quarterbacks Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are almost locks to go one and two. We're of the belief Jones is three. That leaves either Lance or Fields as the fourth-best quarterback available.

There's a lot of QB-needy teams including the Falcons, Panthers, Lions, Broncos, and Patriots — and three of these are picking in the top-10. With desperation in the air, we see Lance being selected before the seventh spot. Whether he has the talent to warrant that high of a selection or not, the fact is, he plays a premium position in which teams historically overreach for.

Atlanta with the fourth pick is a possible landing spot for Lance, but then again, we could see them trading back with one of the aforementioned QB-hungry teams. Miami at six is another move-up spot for those same teams. We don't know with who exactly, but our gut tells us Lance is going early come draft night.

Betting pick: Under 6.5 (-125)

First Defensive Player Chosen

Over/UnderBetOnline
Under 6.5 Pick-125
Over 6.5 Pick-115

Per usual, offensive players are hogging up all the NFL Draft spotlight. But what about the defensive rookies-to-be? Which will be the highest selected one?

Alabama cornerback Surtain certainly seems qualified. He's the reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year. His father was a three-time Pro Bowl cornerback. And he's coming out from the Rolling Tide, which has sent one stud defensive back after another into the league in recent memory (Marlon Humphrey, Eddie Jackson, and Minkah Fitzpatrick have all earned Pro Bowl nods).

Dallas at pick No. 10 feels like Surtain range. Any other year, a prospect the caliber of Surtain would go higher. But the run at quarterback atop the draft will make him wait a little longer, albeit still be the first defender drafted.

Betting pick: Patrick Surtain II (-120)

Over/Under 5.5 Pick: Kyle Pitts

Over/UnderBetOnline
Under 6.5 Pick-125
Over 6.5 Pick-115

This bet really comes down to what Cincinnati does at five. The four picks before this are very likely to be quarterbacks. The Bengals should have the first choice at the best non-QB prospect available — which Pitts is certainly in the discussion for.

Here's a tight end that's drawing comparisons to Calvin Johnson. Obviously, that's the type of freak talent you want to build around last year's No. 1 overall pick, quarterback Joe Burrow.

But let's not forget how Burrow's rookie season ended: a season-ending ACL injury after being sandwiched by two defenders for a sack. With an image of Burrow being carted off burned in their head, we believe the Bengals' front office opts to draft offensive lineman Penei Sewell at five instead. And with that, Pitts falls past five for the over.

Betting pick: Over 5.5 (+115)
