Best Bets To Win 2023 CFP Championship

A lot can happen from now and the end of the regular season — injuries, more transfers, off-the-field drama, etc. That's why you want to temper your 2023 CFP Championship bets. Temper in both the dollar amount you wager (don't over-bet) and who you bet (multiple choices are the way to go). We have some early frontrunners that you should target with a bet over others. Here are the three teams we're backing with money:

Alabama

For the first time in a long time, Nick Saban's program is somewhat being overlooked as a title contender. We mean, they're still +550 to win (tied for second best), but those odds are rather long for the Crimson Tide under Saban. However, we've been around the betting block long enough to know it's not a smart idea to underrate Saban, which is why we're wagering the Tide bounce back big time in 2023 after an 11-2 season.

Of course, the big question mark in Tuscaloosa will be who succeeds Bryce Young as the team's signal caller. Young, a former Heisman winner, is arguably the best quarterback in program history. But that's the thing, there's no one player set to be "the man." Most are expecting a quarterback competition in camp for Bama with Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe co-favorites to win the job.

Either way, we actually expect the Tide to revert to a run-first-style team in 2023. This was Saban's preferred playing style when he had the likes of Mark Ingram, Derrick Henry, and Trent Richardson leading the way. We'd look out for Jamarion Miller to assume that role in 2023. Miller flashes as a freshman this past season averaging an eye-popping 6.8 yards per carry.

Of course, that rushing style only works if it has a formidable defense on the other side. We surely expect that to be the case since that side of the ball is Saban's strong suit anyway. The Tide defense isn't lacking talent going into next season either. All this makes Bama a solid betting choice, especially at its somewhat long odds.

Michigan

Once again, Michigan was bounced out of the CFP semi-finals. And once again, there's talk about Jim Harbaugh leaving Ann Arbor for the NFL. And our expectation is that Harbaugh's will-he-wont-he-go saga ends the same way this time around: him returning to Michigan, albeit with a better contract (Jim is as good a businessman as head coach, obviously).

Anyway, here's the main reason why we're all-in on the Wolverines getting over the hump in 2023: Blake Corum is back. While most title contenders will have to replace their star players this offseason, Michigan will return its core roster, no one more important than Corum. The running back went off for 1,463 yards and 18 touchdowns in 2022 before an injury cut his season short. If he would've been available in the CFP, we're of the belief Michigan would've beat TCU and certainly given Georgia a run for its money in the finale.

Not only is Corum back in the mix, but so is signal caller J.J. McCarthy. He'll finally go into 2023 as the clear QB1, no more quarterback controversies in Michigan. The experience of this past season could go a long way in helping McCarthy, and the Wolverines as a whole, finally win it all.

USC

Speaking of returning players, the Trojans probably have the best returnee in all of the country — reigning Heisman winner Caleb Williams. Head coach Lincoln Riley brought out the best in the dual-threat quarterback. Here's Williams' regular-season stat line in 2022: 4,537 passing yards, a school-record 42 touchdowns, 382 rushing yards, and 10 more scores on the ground. One can only fathom how much better the tandem gets in 2023, which alone is reason to jump on USC here.
