Men’s 2023 US Open Winner Betting Pick

Let’s not mince words here, the winner of the men’s US Open will most likely be Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz. Both have dominated the 2023 campaign and have given us epic face-offs against one another. We’d expect the same in this Grand Slam and the top betting sites for tennis seemingly agree as both players are runaway favorites to win outright:

Novak Djokovic+120+120+120
Carlos Alzaraz+150+150+150
Daniil Medvedev+700+700+700
Jannik Sinner+1100+1100+1100
Alexander Zverev+2200+2200+2200
Stefanos Tsitsipas+2500+2500+2500
Casper Ruud+3000+3000+3000

Let’s make the argument for each, shall we? We’ll start with Djokovic, whose redemption tour isn’t over quite yet despite winning two Grand Slams already this season. Remember he was banned from this very event a year ago. We saw how emotional Djokovic played at the 2023 Australian Open, who did the same to him for refusing the vaccine, and we’d expect the same in Flushing Meadows.

And then there’s Alcaraz, who used Djokovic’s absence to win his maiden US Open a year ago. Back at Wimbledon, the young phenom proved he can win a Grand Slam even with Djokovic in the field. The two squared off in that final, which Alacaraz won and denied Djokovic a sweep of the Grand Slams in the process.

These two have now dueled one-on-one on four occasions, splitting the series two a piece. The last game, at the recent Cincinnati Masters, was the most competitive game yet. In the end, Djokovic came from championship point down to beat Alcaraz in what became the longest best-of-three final in ATP Tour history. This is the best rivalry in the sport and we fully expect chapter five in New York City.

Still, we’re picking Djokovic to prevail. With every passing tournament, Alcaraz seems to close the gap on Djokovic but there’s still a gap, even if it’s tiny. Plus, you throw in the revenge angle and the 23-time Grand Slam winner should be able to hold off Alcaraz at least one more time.

Women’s 2023 US Open Winner Betting Pick

What becomes obvious about the 2023 US Open women’s bracket is how much more wide open it is than the men’s side. Just take a look at the underneath betting odds:

PlayerBetOnlineBetUSBovada
Iga Swiatek+225+225+225
Aryna Sabalenka+500+500+500
Elena Rybakina+500+500+500
Jessica Pegula+1000+1000+1000
Coco Gauff+1200+1200+1200
Ons Jabeur+1600+1600+1600
Karolina Muchova+2200+2200+2200

All three previous Grand Slams have resulted in different women’s champions. Sabalenka won the Australian Open, Iga Swiatek took the French Open, and underdog Marketa Vondrousova shocked the sport at Wimbledon. All three play pretty contrasting styles on the court too so it’s not like there’s a prototype player winning either.

The “easy” bet here is probably the defending champion, Swiatek. She’s been the No. 1-rated player for almost a year and a half now and typically plays well on the hard court. However, we’re not choosing Swiatek. In fact, we predict this tournament will have a winner who’s yet to raise a Grand Slam trophy this year, or heck, ever.

Our money is actually going on Jabeur. She’s come oh so close to her maiden Grand Slam three times in the last year — losing in the Finals to Swiatek here in 2022, plus back-to-back Wimbledon runner-ups. Just as Djokovic has a slight edge as he seeks vengeance, we sense the same for Jabeur. There’s a hint of hunger that she’ll play with that others won’t, which could catapult her ahead in this crowded field.
