2024 Six Nations Betting Preview

Let’s start our preview of the 2024 Six Nations event with a look at the betting odds. Even with the tournament being three to four months out, the best betting sites for sports have lines up at this very moment. Here’s how all six countries are being pegged to win it all:

France+120+120+120
Ireland+135+135+135
England+600+600+600
Scotland+1600+1600+1600
Wales+2800+2800+2800
Italy+25000+25000+25000

You see the chart above, it’s the French that are odds-on favorites to win (they’re the defending champions too). They hosted the World Cup and performed remarkably well, winning Group A with 18 points, three ahead of New Zealand. Les Bleus scored 238 points before bowing out an instant-classic game to South Africa in the quarter-finals. South Africa ended up winning but was arguably pushed the most by France in that game.

Ireland is right there neck-and-need with France in the betting odds though. They also won their Group B (considered the “group of death”), above South Africa for what it’s worth. But just like the French, the Irish also bowed out in the quarterfinals to the All Blacks. Ireland was the No. 1 ranked team going into the World Cup but relinquished the spot with its early exit.

England is third in the odds, despite being the European country that lasted the longest in the World Cup. They suffered heartbreak of their own, going down 16-15 to South Africa in the semis. England beat Argentina in the third-place game. Most would argue they overperformed given the relative youth and how close they came to eliminating South Africa.

The three countries are the clear-cut teams to beat at Six Nations. We mean, look at the fall-off in betting odds after. Scotland, Wales, and Italy — none of the three are getting much of a chance to win the tourney. Italy has never won this championship, the only country that’s title-less. Scotland has a drought dating back to 1990, while Wales — 10-time winners (second most of all time) — have fallen on hard times rugby-wise.

Best Bet To Win 2024 Six Nations

Word of advice: don’t bet too big on the Six Nations winner — not right now, at least. Things can change from now until the event starts so this should just be a preliminary bet of sorts. You can up how much you stake once the tourney is more near and we have a clear picture of who’s actually playing and what a team’s momentum is.

However, it would be hard not to put money on Ireland. Escaping the World Cup group of death in first is not to be overlooked. Just as impressive was almost coming back from a 13-0 deficit to the All Blacks in the match that eventually sent them home packing.

But we’re confident this team can rebound at the Six Nations. Though, they’ll have to do it with a new No. 10 now that Johnny Sexton has chosen to retire. Ross Byrne seems like an immediate fill-in, while Jack Crowley could be the long-term answer. Ireland has solid options with either and we fully expect them to not miss a beat, hence why we’re picking them in Six Nations.

England might also be worth a look based on the odds alone. To get the third-place World Cup finishers at +600 odds feels like a steal. The English have a good mixture of youth and experience. The latter might be phased out, but there should be enough holdovers to sustain success for the Six Nations. This makes England a perfect flyer bet with an excellent risk-to-reward ratio.

  • February 3 — Ireland vs. France (round 1 opener)
