Fury vs. Chisora Preview

Fury swore he was retiring earlier this year after defeating Dillian Whyte with a thunderous uppercut KO. But in a classic boxing fashion, the fighter couldn’t leave the ring — nor the hundreds of millions of dollars still on the table. Thus, Fury is back less than eight months after his supposed retirement. The Gypsy King does battle with a familiar foe in Chisora. Let’s recap those previous encounters as we preview Fury vs. Chisora III.

Back in 2011, Fury ended Chisora’s then-undefeated streak, earning a unanimous decision with scores of 118-111, 117-112, and 117-112. They fought three years later and this time, Fury forced Chisora to retire on the stool after the 10th round. As you can see, both previous fights were completely one-sided, which begs the question: why the hell is a trilogy fight necessary?

Good question. A possible Fury versus Oleksandr Usyk superfight was put off until next year because Usyk did not want to return to the ring this year after topping Anthony Joshua in August. Speaking of Joshua, there was supposed contract talks between he and Fury in a different all-English showdown. Alas, they went nowhere. So when Fury wanted an opponent before the year ended, options were few.

Enter Chisora, who is 38 years old now — four years older than Fury. The two are friends despite any press conference trash-talking, and if we’re being honest, this fight feels like a retirement gift on behalf of Fury. It’s one last payday for Chisora before closing out his career, whereas Fury gets a tune-up before potentially going toe to toe with Usyk in the first half of 2023. It’s a win-win for the two, but not bettors.

That’s because the moneyline odds in this matchup are as one-sided as can be. We scoured the best boxing betting sites and each line has Fury as the runaway betting favorite to win. Here are the current odds:

Fury vs. Chisora Best Bets

As you can see, there’s zero money to be made on the fight’s moneyline — that is, unless you have Chisora pulling off the stunning upset. That is not us, which is why we have to get creative with our best bets for Fury-Chisora. We have two non-moneyline picks for you below, both of which still have some semblance of betting value:

Over/Under 6.5 Rounds

Ah, yes, the classic over/under bet. You’re not getting -110 odds on each side here, but it’s at least close. Here’s where the lines stand on this wager:

OutcomeBovadaBetUS
Over 6.5 rounds-140-140
Under 6.5 rounds+110+110

The first two fights went long — one to all 12 rounds and the other to 10. Perhaps that’s why the over is the betting favorite in this one. However, we’re not buying that for one second. Both those matchups were ages ago in 2011 and 2014. Neither fighter is anywhere near the same as back then.

For one, Chisora is far worse now. Since the second Fury defeat, he’s suffered seven more which brings his career record to a modest 33-12. He did win last time out against Kubrat Pulev in July, but at the same time, Pulev is 41 years old so the victory isn't saying much.

Fury has sharpened his in-ring skills since last beating Chisora. And if anything, he’s become a knockout artist of sorts — a far cry from the fighting technician he was once known for. Each of Fury’s last three wins ended in stunning knockdowns, and we’re betting the KO streak extends to four in an early finish.

Exact Finish Prop

If Fury is beating Chisora with an early knockdown, which we're 100 percent behind, then you need to also bet on that outcome in the prop market. You can wager on the exact finish of the fight and your betting options are as follows:

OutcomeBovadaBetUS
Chisora To Win By Stoppage+1200+1200
Chisora To Win By Decision+2200+2200
Fury To Win By Stoppage-335-335
Fury To Win By Decision+280+280
Draw+2800+2800

Fury's stoppage win is at -335 — which isn't rich in value, but it is in comparison to his -2000 moneyline. So we're jumping on that, and even parlaying it with the under 6.5 rounds to stretch our money as far as possible in a fight that probably shouldn't even be happening if we're being honest. But hey, money is money and that parlay is worthwhile!
