2019 F1 Season Recap
Last season ended like the two before it with Lewis Hamilton once again claiming the F1 Drivers title. The Brit has now claimed five of the last six championships for a career total of six. One more would tie him with Michael Schumacher at seven and most in Formula 1 history.
Hamilton ran away with the 2019 title, claiming 11 checkered flags on the season and accumulating 413 total points. His teammate on the Mercedes team, Valterri Bottas, finished runner-up with 326 points. In third was Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing at 278 points.
2020 F1 Season Quick Outlook
The newest season begins Sunday, March 15 with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne. Races will run up until November 29 for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
All in all, 22 races make up the season — making it the most in F1 history. New additions to the race calendar include competitions in Vietnam and a return to the Netherlands, while Germany is now gone.
Hamilton's Championship To Lose
Hamilton is not only on the brink of history with F1 Drivers titles but also F1 race victories. He's at 83 career wins and Schumacher's record is 91.
It would be foolish not to put money on Hamilton here — and all 22 Grand Prix races for that matter. He's en route to becoming the greatest F1 race car driver of all time and just a step ahead of the rest of the field.
Sure, his -185 moneyline isn't exactly lucrative, at least not compared to the plus-money odds of every other racer. But remember, being greedy isn't a redeeming quality among bettors.
The only racer we can see giving Hamilton a run for his money is his teammate, Bottas, ironically. The 30-year-old is coming off the best season of his career.
However, the knock-on Bottas is consistency or his lack of it. On his best day — think the 2019 Australian Grand Prix, a race he topped Hamilton by a staggering 20 seconds — Bottas seems near invincible. But those performances are sometimes too far and between for the Finnish racer.
Bottas is a nice darkhorse bet to throw some leftover cash on, but the bulk should still go to Hamilton. We might never see an F1 racer more dominant than him.
