Best Bets To Win The Masters Tournament

Best Bets To Win The Masters Tournament

There’s no golf tourney quite like The Masters. Whether it’s the green jacket, the Augusta National course itself, or the rich history of the event, this competition just means something extra to everyone involved — including bettors. For that betting crowd, this article is for you. Here’s our favorite betting picks to make at the major!

The field at Augusta National will include 96 of the world's very best golfers, however, only a select few are actually good bets to win The Masters tournament. It's true, but before we get to who those golfers worth wagering on are, let's take a peek at the 2021 Masters odds, per online bookmakers:

GolferBetOnlineBetUS
Dustin Johnson+800+800
Bryson DeChambeau+1100+800
Justin Thomas+1100+1000
Jordan Speith+1200+1100
Jon Rahm+1400+1000
Rory McIlroy+1600+1100
Xander Schauffele+2200+1800

As you can see, betting lines are mostly neck-and-neck among the favorites. With that said, the odds do differ slightly from one sportsbook to another. Value-wise, BetUS offers more "bang for your buck" on a number of players.

But speaking of value, bettors should know their benefits don't merely stop with friendly betting prices. Nope, there are also sign-up bonuses that can multiply their earnings in a hurry.

These bonuses will also vary from site to site, but by leveraging any one of them, bettors stand to gain thousands of dollars in free play. Yes, you read that correctly! To earn the free money, all that's needed from a bettor is to create an account and deposit money into it — a certain percentage of that deposit is matched in free play by the bookmaker.

That bonus money sure could go a long way, whether that's splurging it all on The Masters or stashing some away for future golf betting tournaments. Either way, you don't want to leave free money on the table so act on these deals before betting on The Masters!

Alright, let's get the good stuff now — who will the 2021 Masters? That's the two-million-dollar question (roughly speaking, that's the amount of dough the major winner will earn). Here's our answer(s):

Johnson Goes For History (Again)

The last time we saw Dustin Johnson at the Masters — only five short months ago — the 36-year-old put on an unprecedented performance for the one-of-a-kind event. Played in November with no fans due to the pandemic, Johnson finished 20-under 268, breaking the course record set by Tiger Woods in 1997 by two shots

That record-shattering performance at Augusta, along with his current number-one ranking in the world, is why Johnson is the clear betting favorite again in 2021. But going back-to-back will require more history-making on Johnson's part.

Only three golfers have won The Masters in consecutive years — Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods. The last to do so, Woods, pulled off the feat in 2002. So we're talking an almost two-decade stretch that no one's two-peated.

Regardless, we think Johnson deserves a bet here. It's almost an obligation after his second-to-none 2020 outing. And the fact it happened so recently gives us more confidence Johnson can maintain the Masters' momentum again.

Betting pick to make: Johnson (+800)

Always Hedge Your Bets

Whether it's the Masters or another PGA event, we never advise going "all in" on one single golfer. The playing field is too dense and randomness can strike at any point, even if you're the world's best like Johnson currently is.

Therefore, you have to spread your bets around. At a minimum, three different golfers should earn a wager when it comes to a golf futures bet like this. Think of this as a "hedge" in case that randomness does come into play, which is highly likely, especially at the famously difficult greens of Augusta.

One smart hedge this year is Justin Thomas. He's right behind Johnson in the world rankings at No. 2 and is red-hot entering the event. Thomas is only weeks removed from winning The Players — a performance where he finished one shot short of tying the course record at TPC Sawgrass.

Moreover, Thomas has a strong track record at Augusta. He's improved his final standing at The Masters every time he's played. In the past five years, here's where Thomas finished (from oldest to most recent): 39, 22, 17, 12, and 4. That year-by-year progression could culminate in a championship in 2021.

Since Johnson and Thomas are two Masters favorites, our last pick will instead be more of a "longshot." How about the young phenom Collin Morikawa

The 24-year-old won his first major, the PGA Championship, a year ago. He also competed in the Masters for the first time, placing 44th on the final leaderboard. With those newbie jitters out of the way, Morikawa has a real chance at surprising the field this time around.

Your money is in good hands with the trio of Johnson, Thomas, and Morikawa. Each of the three have recent wins under their belt and we all know how much mental confidence matters in golf. Bank on that to continue comes Masters time.

Betting picks to make: Justin Thomas (+1000) and Collin Morikawa (+2800)

You really can't go wrong with any of the three picks above. However, if you do want to see a full list of 2021 Masters betting odds, then head over to one of the online bookies below. In addition, these sites will also carry other Masters-related wagers like props.

Just be sure to get your bets in sooner rather than later. The Masters is right around the corner with an April 8 start date
