CF Montreal are one of two Canadian soccer teams who feature in the Eastern Conference. They have enjoyed comparatively great success since joining the league in 2012. CF Montreal also secured the services of Didier Drogba in 2015. The former Marseille and Chelsea striker was a huge addition to the MLS, officially announcing CF Montreal as bonafide contender.
In 2015, they finished third in the Eastern Conference, with Drogba the former UEFA Champions League winner scoring 11 goals in his first 11 appearances for the club.
Once in the MLS playoffs, CF Montreal recorded an impressive win over their bitter rivals Toronto F.C., triumphing 3-0 to face Columbus Crew in the semifinals. CF Montreal won the first match 2-1, but lost the reverse fixture 3-1. Columbus Crew required a late aggregate equalizer to force extra time, before a Kei Kamara winner sealed their place in the next round of the plao and eliminate CF Montreal in agonising fashion.
