Montreal Impact are one of two Canadian soccer teams who feature in the Eastern Conference. They have enjoyed comparatively great success since joining the league in 2012. In 2015, Impact became the second MLS team in 20 years, and the first Canadian team, to ever to compete in the CONCACAF Champions League Final. Playing their home games at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal, Quebec, they are also  the 2013 and 2014 back-to-back Canadian Championship winners.  [+]

The club was formed due to a challenge made by Toronto, Montreal’s biggest rivals, who said in 2008 they’d welcome Montreal as an MLS rival. Impact lost their first-ever MLS game to a Canadian side when Vancouver Whitecaps beat them 2-0. But the match was well attended with over 58,000 fans inside the Saputo Stadium.

After winning the Canadian Championship, they knocked out a Mexican side in the 2015 CONCACAF Champions League knockout stage, beating Pachuca on away goals. Impact also secured the services of Didier Drogba in 2015. The former Marseille and Chelsea striker was a huge addition to the MLS, officially announcing Impact as bonafide contender.

In 2015, they finished third in the Eastern Conference, with Drogba the former UEFA Champions League winner scoring 11 goals in his first 11 appearances for the club.

Once in the MLS playoffs, Montreal Impact recorded an impressive win over their bitter rivals Toronto F.C., triumphing 3-0 to face Columbus Crew in the semifinals. Impact won the first match 2-1, but lost the reverse fixture 3-1. Columbus Crew required a late aggregate equalizer to force extra time, before a Kei Kamara winner sealed their place in the next round of the plao and eliminate Impact in agonising fashion.

Impact returned to the semifinals in 2016, where they lost to bitter rivals Toronto FC in one of the most exciting semifinals ever.

How To Make Money Betting On Montreal Impact

The Impact are now without Drogba so how willi they cope with the loss? Drogba was out for stints during the 2016 with an ailing back so it won't be completely foreign territory for this team.

He scored 18 goals in 22 matches in 2016, which is a chunk of goals to compensate for. But Impact are equipped with a triumvirate of capable goal scorers, including Matteo Moncosu, Inacio Piatti and Dominic Oduro. All three know where the back of the net is and will be expected to find it on a regular basis.

Impact were one of the most steady teams in the MLS in terms of home and away performances. They won four and drew six on the road, quite reasonable numbers compared with most of the other teams. Impact won seven of 17 home games, but dropped points by drawing five at Stade Seputo.

Scoring 53 and conceding 47 goals, Impact were a middle-of-the-road team in both offensive and defensive categories. From those stats it's nearly impossible to decipher whether the over or under is a more appealing bet. You'll have to find out how they've fared in head-to-head matchups, while taking into account form and current injuries.

Impact are drawing machines so keep an eye on those particular betting lines. After two consecutive semifinal appearances, a lot is expected of the current Impact team. Wait a while to see how they progress in the early stages of the season before risking a futures wager. They have been so close to making the finals, which makes it even the more difficult to jump that final hurdle.
